Double Drat, drat, drat . . . and aaarrrggggghhhh!

So, I posted this piece earlier this week, it was my favorite to date. It took so long to coordinate colors and pieces and cut out and arrange and glue layers that overlapped and tangled together. Earlier this evening I went outside to my paint booth to seal it - I've been using a spray matte sealer with no problem until now. I'll let you see what happened . . . (before sealing on the top, after on the bottom)

So, another piece ruined in the sealing process. I have no idea what happened on this one. Maybe I didn't shake it up enough though I thought I did. I put this question out to the universe that might be reading . . . How do you seal/protect your pieces? I tried using gel medium on one piece posted earlier and it blurred the pictures and made things wrinkle and I did the "do over". I don't know how to use bee's wax. Is a class involved to learn how to use the bees wax? I am so frustrated.

I will make this piece over though it's not near as fun the second time using the same idea, I just really liked this one because it had the nuance of my "fish world" I live in. In a more perfect world, I would use all vintage one-of-a-kind original pieces in my work, but I cannot afford such a vast library of pictures and ephemera yet and it is nice to have the back-up of the scanned or digital pieces just in this situation since I seem to screw up as much as not. Aaarrgghhh . . .

I'm sure in person it looks splotchy, (is that a word???) but scanned and posted it has a nice weathered look. I actually like the faded quality.

I deleted my comment cuz it went to a different one of your posts but showed up here. I dunno about blogger sometiems.

Anyway--I do (did) seal my pieces with a light coating a spray sealer. Gel med. never worked well for me because when it came in contact with inkjet photos I'd printed it smeared. In NC I had to be careful about humidity. I never had a piece ruined tho.

My choice sealer is the Envirotex Spray Sealer (I get mine at AC Moore). I have used Krylon but don't like it as much. The Envirotex is clearer. I always did multiple very light coats.

Beeswax is easy I've heard. Check out Mike Putnam's blog (Jack & Cat Curio) - he does a lot with beeswax and can help you out. I think Deb took a beeswax class when she was in AZ too.

Like Stamps said. It does give it an older, weathered look. But I get the feeling that is not what you were going for. The before shot is awesome. I like the fish thrown in there. You should try to incorporate a fish into every one of your cards.

Love ya,
Oz
