This is me flapping my wings . . .

. . . wishing I could fly like a bird all the way to Missouri. We will get schedule confirmation tomorrow, but it looks like my dad will have his bypass surgery on the 19th which means I will be flying from here to Las Vegas to meet up with my brother and then we will fly from there together to my dad's probably around the 15th or 16th. So at least I know when it is all happening and now have to prepare for it. Have to figure out what I can take to do on the airplane since I can't collage on the flight - that's too bad cuz I could've stayed very busy doing that. I will prepare a bunch of stuff to work on once I get there though. It may be a long 2 weeks without a chance to make art or blog! Wow . . .

Ohhh I know what you need for the flight!!! Not wings, coloured pencils... NOW hear me out, not regular coloured pencils but water colour colour pencils. The kind that are blendable with water. They are soooo cooool. I don't draw very much or often but I sure love having my fancy schmancy 5 dollar set of watercolour pencils on hand because they are soooo satisfying! Just draw like regular, dip a paintbrush (or finger or q-tip or your tongue if you're into eating paint) in water and go over top and you can do all sorts of satisfying blending and painting-esque type stuff.
I do not think I can express my level of true love I feel for these pencils. And they'd be a tidy but crafty thing to do on the plane with little mess.
By the by I'm aware I have "u"s in every usage of the word "colour" in this comment. Sometimes I get rebellious when the spell checker guard dealie starts underlining the word "colour" saying I'm spelling it wrong when I'm NOT!!!!! I'm spelling it alternately, and I have an entire country to back me up.
But the coloured pencils, a must have!!!!!!

Oooo! Oooooo! And add a Moleskine journal and glue stick too! And one of those little brushes with a water reservoir attached. (They sell them at Michaels.) I agree with Tace; I can't live without my watercolor pencils AND watercolor crayons. They're amazing!!!! BTW - the chicken pic is too much (but I share your fear of flying so I know EXACTLY how you feel! Cluck, cluck!!!)

oh for some reason i thought you were leaving sooner than you actually are.

i'm much more into collage than drawing, but when i travel i take a baggie with watercolor pencils and sharpies....

definitely take along a small sketch book so you can jot down all your wonderful ideas for new art when you do get back. I also like to take pens/pencils and doodle in my sketchbook. I've got pages of them that I plan to scan one of these days, color them in and use them somehow in a piece of art!
