Matchbox info

Hi ya'all. I've had a few flickr's and emails and comments here about the matchbox in the post a couple down from here. I'm not planning on making any to sell, at least right now, just cuz I don't think the time would be worth what they could sell for, I don't like working quite that small since I am such a detail person and it is hard on my middle aged eyes, but also because YOU can make them so easily!

For those that haven't seen what I'm talking about and might not scroll down . . .

I just bought a package of regular ol' matchboxes at the grocery store - can't remember what they cost but it seemed like it was less than $2 for 10 or so. We destroyed the matches and kept the boxes (since we don't need to use more than a box about every 2 - 3 years it seems like!) You can order fancy shmancy plain white empty matchboxes online if you like and they come in a variety of sizes. For the one below I just used the plain ol' red white and blue brand, whatever it is, since I was covering it in paper anyway. I measured and cut the paper first. I used tacky glue to attach the paper but a xyron would work well too if you are good at keeping things straight and don't have to slide it around a bit like I do. Once the paper is on, the hard part is over. The cards inside are just mini-ATC's really, 1 1/4 x 1 3/4 inches. That's it! It was really fun to make. Enjoy! (tell me if you make any so I can have a peek!)

Now, there's some things going on in the world of matchboxes even more interesting than my little creation, of course (not that mine is that exciting). Have you heard of the International Championship League of Matchbox Stuffers? Now this is something I can get into (despite the teasing I will get from my family like I give to my daughter for having the hobby of flat ironing her money!)
  • Lastly, if you just type in the flickr search bar "matchbox" you will find lots of very cool matchbox art

Tha
nks for asking about my matchbox and for all of your kind comments about everything and as always! You make my day a good one everyday!

And, remember, I won't be home or blogging until Monday - taking the weekend off. Enjoy yours!

Aww, that's so cool of you to share the technique. I have covered a matchbox in polymer clay before but not paper. You know what would be fun would be to print little photos and put in them as a teeny weeny photo box for a relative or whoever.

Have a fabulouw weekend! It is pouring rain here and will do for the next few days. That's all right, get rid of the snow:) Give me a chance to clean up inside.
Those matchboxes are exquisite:) Funny because someone on my flickr, has been stuffing matchboxes and taking pictures. I didn't realize it was a real hobby!

Lisa just asked me had I seen your matchboxes and, of course, I had. I love them! But I just blurked yesterday. So I'm back today to tell you just how beautiful I think they are. I love the Asian flair and the tiny explosions of color! They are perfect little treasures.
